01 · Nasal airflow basics

Nose Strip FAQs

Learn what external nasal strips do, how to apply them and how to get reliable adhesion.

What are nose strips?

Nose strips, also called nasal strips, are flexible adhesive bands worn across the outside of the nose. Their spring-like bands gently lift the sides of the nose to support a more open feeling through the front of the nasal passages. They are drug-free and do not go inside the nose.

How do nose strips work?

A nose strip creates gentle outward tension across the lower bridge of the nose. This can support the nasal sidewalls and reduce the feeling of resistance at the nasal valve, which is one of the narrowest parts of the nasal airway.

Do nose strips really work?

Many people notice that nasal breathing feels easier as soon as a correctly positioned strip begins lifting the outer nasal walls. Results vary because congestion, anatomy, allergies, a deviated septum and the source of snoring differ between people.

Where should I place a nasal strip?

Position the strip across the lower bridge of the nose, just above the point where the nostrils begin to flare. It should sit low enough to lift the nasal sidewalls but not so low that it covers the nostrils. See our nose strip application guide.

How do I apply a nose strip correctly?

Wash and completely dry the nose, remove the backing, centre the strip above the nostril flare and press the centre and both ends firmly for 10–15 seconds. Apply it before sweating and before using moisturiser, oil or sunscreen around the placement area.

Why is my nose strip not sticking?

The most common causes are skin oil, sweat, moisturiser, sunscreen, damp skin, facial hair or incorrect placement. Clean the area thoroughly, allow it to dry and avoid touching the adhesive. Applying the strip several minutes before exercise or bed can help the adhesive set.

How long can I wear a nose strip?

Disposable nose strips are single-use and are generally worn for one sleep or training session, commonly up to 8–12 hours. Remove the strip sooner if you experience pain, significant redness, itching or irritation.

Can I reuse a disposable nasal strip?

No. Once removed, the adhesive and lifting tension are reduced. Use a fresh strip each time for better hygiene, adhesion and performance. The band in our magnetic nasal strip system is reusable, but its adhesive tabs are single-use.

How do I remove a nose strip without irritating my skin?

Soak the strip with warm water during a shower or use a warm, wet face cloth. Slowly peel both ends toward the centre rather than pulling quickly upward. People with sensitive skin should remove it especially gently and take breaks if irritation develops.

Can I wear nose strips every night?

Many adults use external nasal strips regularly. Monitor your skin, rotate between suitable strip options if needed and stop use if irritation persists. Nasal strips should not be placed over damaged, sunburnt or inflamed skin.

Can nose strips help with a deviated septum?

A nose strip cannot straighten or treat a deviated septum. However, some people find that supporting the external nasal valve makes breathing feel less restricted. Persistent one-sided blockage should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.

Can nose strips help with allergies, hay fever or congestion?

Nose strips do not treat allergies or remove mucus, but their mechanical lift may make the front of the nose feel more open. Allergy symptoms and ongoing congestion may require appropriate treatment or medical advice.

02 · Night-time breathing

Snoring and Sleep FAQs

Understand when nose strips may help snoring and when professional assessment is important.

Can nose strips help stop snoring?

Nose strips may reduce snoring when restricted nasal airflow is contributing to the noise. They are less likely to help when snoring mainly comes from the tongue, soft palate or another obstruction deeper in the airway. Explore our nose strips for snoring and sleep.

What causes snoring?

Snoring occurs when tissues in the upper airway vibrate during sleep. Common contributors include nasal congestion, sleeping on the back, alcohol, body weight, mouth breathing, airway anatomy and obstructive sleep apnoea.

How quickly do nose strips work for snoring?

The external lifting action begins as soon as the strip is applied correctly. A change in nasal breathing or snoring may be noticed on the first night, although it can take several nights to judge whether the product suits your breathing pattern.

Do nose strips treat sleep apnoea?

No. Nose strips do not treat obstructive sleep apnoea and must not replace CPAP, an oral appliance, prescribed treatment or medical advice. They may only provide external nasal airflow support.

When should I see a doctor about snoring?

Seek medical advice for loud persistent snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, choking or gasping during sleep, morning headaches, poor concentration or excessive daytime sleepiness. These can be signs of a sleep-related breathing disorder.

Can I use nose strips with CPAP?

Some CPAP users wear a nasal strip if it does not interfere with the mask cushion or seal. Check the fit carefully and ask your sleep clinician when uncertain. Never use a strip as a replacement for CPAP.

Can side sleeping reduce snoring?

Side sleeping may help some people because lying on the back can allow the tongue and soft tissues to move backward and narrow the airway. Snoring can have several causes, so position changes will not work for everyone.

Why do I wake up with a dry mouth?

Dry mouth may be associated with mouth breathing, nasal blockage, dehydration, medicines or other health conditions. Improving nasal comfort may help some people, while persistent symptoms should be discussed with a health professional.

03 · Reusable magnetic band

Magnetic Nasal Strip FAQs

How the magnetic system attaches, which components are reusable and how to position it.

What are magnetic nasal strips?

Magnetic nasal strips use two adhesive tabs placed on the sides of the nose and a reusable magnetic band. The band connects to the tabs and creates outward lift to support the nasal sidewalls.

How do magnetic nose strips stay on?

The single-use tabs adhere to clean, dry skin. Small magnetic connection points on the tabs hold the reusable band in position. The band provides the lift, while the adhesive tabs keep the system attached to the nose.

Which parts of a magnetic nasal strip are reusable?

The outer magnetic band is reusable. The skin-contact adhesive tabs are designed for one use and should be replaced after each sleep or training session. Replacement tabs are available separately.

How do I position magnetic nasal strip tabs?

Place one tab on each side of the nose in an even position, following the supplied instructions. Attach the band and check that both sides lift comfortably. Reposition with fresh tabs if the band feels uneven or places excessive tension on the skin.

Are magnetic nasal strips stronger than regular strips?

The systems create lift differently. Magnetic strips use a separate band connected to adhesive tabs, while disposable strips use flexible bands built into the adhesive strip. The better option depends on your preferred feel, skin, activity and desired level of lift.

Can magnetic nasal strips be used for sleep and snoring?

They may support nasal airflow during sleep and may reduce snoring when nasal restriction is a contributor. They do not treat sleep apnoea. View the On The Nose Co. magnetic nasal strip system.

Can I wear magnetic strips while running or at the gym?

Yes. Apply the tabs to completely clean and dry skin before sweating. Avoid moisturiser, oil and sunscreen beneath the adhesive, and test the system during training before using it in a competition.

Can I use magnetic nasal strips with a pacemaker or implanted device?

The product contains magnets. Ask your doctor and the manufacturer of your pacemaker or implanted medical device before use, and follow all device-specific magnet safety guidance.

04 · Mouth breathing support

Mouth Tape FAQs

Important information about how mouth tape works, who should avoid it and how to use it carefully.

What is sleep mouth tape?

Sleep mouth tape is a single-use adhesive strip designed to act as a gentle cue that discourages the lips from falling fully open during sleep. On The Nose Co. mouth tape includes a central slit and is intended only for adults who can breathe clearly and comfortably through their nose.

How does mouth tape work?

Mouth tape supports the lips in a closed position and may encourage nasal breathing when the nasal airway is already clear. It does not open a blocked nose, deliver oxygen or treat an underlying sleep or breathing condition.

Can mouth tape help reduce snoring?

It may help selected adults whose snoring is related to sleeping with the mouth open. It will not address every cause of snoring and should not be used to self-treat suspected sleep apnoea. Explore On The Nose Co. sleep mouth tape.

Is mouth taping safe for everyone?

No. Do not use mouth tape if your nose is blocked, nasal breathing is difficult, you feel nauseated, you have consumed alcohol or sedating medicine, or a health professional has advised against it. Test the tape while awake and remove it immediately if breathing feels restricted.

Can I use mouth tape with a blocked nose?

No. Only consider mouth tape when nasal breathing is completely clear and comfortable. A nose strip may support external nasal airflow, but it does not make mouth tape appropriate when the nose remains blocked.

Does mouth tape treat sleep apnoea?

No. Mouth tape must not replace CPAP, an oral appliance, surgery or professional sleep-apnoea treatment. People with diagnosed or suspected sleep apnoea should seek guidance from their treating clinician before considering mouth taping.

Why does On The Nose Co. mouth tape have a slit?

The central slit provides a small opening and can make the design feel less restrictive for some users. It is not a substitute for a clear nasal airway and does not make mouth taping suitable when breathing is obstructed.

How do I apply and remove mouth tape?

Clean and dry the skin, gently bring the lips together and apply the tape without stretching it. Test it while awake before sleeping. In the morning, loosen it with warm water and peel slowly to minimise skin and facial-hair pulling.

05 · Training and competition

Running, Gym and Sport FAQs

Why athletes use nasal strips and how to improve adhesion during sweat, humidity and movement.

Why do athletes wear nose strips?

Athletes commonly use nose strips to support nasal airflow and reduce the sensation of restriction during warm-ups, training and competition. They are popular in running, gym training, cycling, triathlon, HYROX and field sports because they are external, drug-free and easy to apply.

Do nose strips increase oxygen?

Nose strips do not create oxygen. By mechanically supporting the front of the nasal airway, they may make airflow feel easier for some users. Individual exercise and performance outcomes vary and are not guaranteed.

Can I use nose strips for running?

Yes. Many runners use nasal strips during easy runs, intervals, long-distance training and races. Apply the strip before sweating and test it during training. Shop nose strips for running and endurance sport.

Are nose strips suitable for HYROX?

Nose strips can be worn during HYROX training and competition to support nasal breathing comfort through running and functional workout stations. Test the strip during several full-intensity sessions before race day.

Can I wear nose strips for AFL, NRL, rugby or soccer?

External nasal strips may be used in many field sports, subject to the rules of the competition and any direction from officials, medical staff or your club. Apply before the warm-up so the adhesive has time to set.

Will nose strips stay on when I sweat?

Adhesion depends on skin preparation, sweat, humidity, placement and skin type. Wash away oil, dry the area fully, avoid skincare underneath the strip and press firmly for 10–15 seconds. Do not apply after you have already started sweating.

Can cyclists and triathletes use nasal strips?

Yes. Cyclists and triathletes may use them to support nasal airflow comfort during training and racing. Apply the strip before sunscreen reaches the nose and test its adhesion under realistic heat and sweat conditions.

Can nose strips be used for yoga, Pilates and breathwork?

Yes. Some people use nasal strips during yoga, reformer Pilates, meditation and breath-focused exercise to make nasal breathing feel more comfortable. A strip should never be used to push through unexplained breathing difficulty.

06 · Product selection

Choosing the Best Nose Strip or Breathing Product

A simple guide to matching your main goal with the most relevant On The Nose Co. option.

What are the best nose strips for snoring?

The best option is one that provides comfortable external lift, stays secure through the night and suits your skin. On The Nose Co. nose strips for snoring are designed for overnight nasal airflow support. Snoring caused by deeper airway obstruction may require a different approach or medical assessment.

What are the best nose strips for running?

Running nose strips should combine secure adhesion, flexible comfort and reliable external lift during sweat and movement. On The Nose Co. sports nose strips are designed for runners, gym users and endurance athletes.

Should I choose regular or magnetic nasal strips?

Choose disposable strips for a simple all-in-one design. Consider magnetic strips when you prefer a reusable outer band and replaceable adhesive tabs. Fit, comfort, skin response and activity should guide your choice.

Should I use nose strips, mouth tape or both?

Nose strips provide external lift to the nasal sidewalls. Mouth tape acts as a cue to keep the lips from falling fully open. Some adults use both when nasal breathing is already clear. Mouth tape should never be used with a blocked nose or breathing difficulty.

Are clear or black nose strips better?

The best choice depends on your preferred appearance, feel, skin and required lift. Clear strips are discreet, while black strips provide a more visible sports-style look. Review the current product page for material and strength details before choosing.
